System for Alert and Monitoring of Potential Overdoses
eMoodie Limited, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics MoveR Hub, proposes to develop ‘Saving SAM’: a system for the detection and alert of a potential overdose. The artificial intelligence enabled system involves a wristworn wearable which can detect risk of overdose using markers of respiratory depression and other relevant indicators from voice and digital behavioural markers. Data streams from the wearable and the eMoodie Minds smartphone app trigger the detection of a potential overdose and alert both the drug user and a support person, thus increasing the likelihood that a life-saving intervention can be administered by ambulatory services contacted either by the individual themselves or the support person. Moreover, through the eMoodie Minds mental health smartphone application, users would also benefit from having the ability to access evidence-based digital therapies to improve their mental health. As eMoodie is a mission-led company, this represents a highly desirable opportunity to contribute to this significant societal problem.
